I’m Back!!

October 15, 2009

I’m back from what seemed like forever. Just been bogged down with work and San Jose Sharks hockey!! Let’s see, what has happened while I was away?

Well for starters, Heroes is having a great season. The storylines are less cluttered as before and the writing is a ton better. The PSPGo was released and seems like a dud in my book. I think its overpriced and I’m still not sold on content as being digital only.

As far as PSN stuff is concerned, I’m patiently waiting for Square-Enix to release Final Fantasy VIII to the PSN Store. HURRY UP SQENIX!!!

On that note, see ya!!

Peace Walker

September 25, 2009

Now that the Tokyo Game Show is in full effect, one bit of news had me pretty excited. The demo for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker would be available to download at the show. I wasn’t sure if they would make the demo available to those not present at the show. Luckily, the good folks at ScrewAttack.com has posted the demo to download online and upload it to your PSP, if you have system update 6.00 on your handheld.

Now the single-player demo is very short. It consists of a short controls tutorial with the next stage having Big Boss taking out a few soldiers. From what I read, there is a multiplayer demo included, but I haven’t gotten to that point yet. Unfortunately, the demo is in Japanese so its alot of trial and error with the menus.

The graphics are the best on the PSP hands down. When you’re not in auto aim, you get an aiming mode pulled from MGS4 and its pulled off well. Konami should have never made MGS Touch and instead focused on a real gaming machine like the PSP. It would have been much more successful.

To close, there isn’t much to say here but that when MGS PW is released, its gonna be a major hit for the PSP.

Wizard of Oz=Fail

September 24, 2009

Last night was the 70th Anniversary screening of the Wizard of Oz in HD. All was going well. People were in a great classic movie watching mood…then it happened…

The feed coming from Fathom, the company behind distributing the film, completely failed for about 30 minutes. The video went back to the before movie trivia while the audio from the movie was being heard. Then, while trying to fix the feed, you could actually see that Dish Network was behind the feed. Now, if you know me, I can’t really stand sattelite and now I have a reason to dislike it even more.

Once they actually fixed the feed from Dish Network, I was pretty much out of the mood to watch a movie like Wizard of Oz.

To close, I had bought these very limited tickets more than a month in advance and was completely let down.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy

September 23, 2009

So here is a game that has been soaking up alot of my playing time. Dissidia: Final Fantasy. This game is a mashup of all of the main heroes and villians from the main Final Fantasy titles. Is this game meant for the FF hardcore or for casual gamers? Well, both. If you’re familiar with the series and each of the stories, you’ll feel right at home. For gamers new to the Final Fantasy series, the individual stories are not overly complex. It could possibly make new players seek out the series as a whole to learn more of their stories.

A major draw to the game is the simplicity of the fighting engine. It’s in 3D but feels almost as if you’re on a 2D plane. attack movements aren’t complicated and usually requires the player to either hold up and the attack buttonor down and the attack button. It’s simple to learn but tough to get down combos. You have two meters, your brave points, which determine your attack strength, and your HP meter, which manages your health. When you attack with your Brave attacks, you’ll only add to your brave points while deducting from your opponent’s BP (Brave Points). You also have an EX gauge which fills up by either capturing an EX cores or EX bubbles that float around the arena. When your Ex gauge is filled, you can activate your EX mode, which grants your character more abilities and access to EX Burst, which unleashes your ultimate attack.

Where this game shines is the amount of content in the game. Most fighting games just add a couple of unlocked characters and maybe different uniforms. This game needs the entire 2nd half of the roster to be unlocked including 2 additional characters. There are alternate uniforms to each character, moves and abilities to be unlocked. There is so much to be done here, you’ll be at it for quite awhile.

This game is not entirely perfect. Sometimes, the camera can be in the way and screw up a match, depending on the stage you’re fighting in. Other than that, I can’t see any bad things about this game. It’s definitely one of the best PSP tiles out there.

My verdict, definitely a buy!

Heroes Volume 5 Episode 1+2

September 22, 2009

So far, so good for Heroes season 4. Claire’s in college. Noah is dealing with his family being fractured. Peter is being the good samaritan we saw in season one. It feels like what made season one so great is creeping back into season 4, which is a very good thing.

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT! I was pretty shocked to find out Hiro Nakamura is dying. While I don’t see the writers actually killing off Hiro, I was pretty surprised by the news. Let’s hope the writers have a clever way of keeping Hiro from dying.

If there is one complaint I have about Heroes in general, its the fact that there are now too many invulnerable characters. Claire is invincible, Peter is invincible, Sylar aka Nathan is invincible and now Tracy can’t seemingly die? It’s just too many characters with that ability. Let’s tone it down just a notch.

Other than that, I give it an A. I hope for 20 more episodes just like this!

Mr. Corgan announcing a 44-song album to be slowly released over the course of a couple of years. Titled ‘Teargarden by

Kaleidyscope’ this is going to be such a huge project with the first song being released around Halloween. Here’s to the

Heroes!!!

September 21, 2009

Finally, after what seemed like forever, HEROES IS BACK!!! Alot is riding on this season to be better than great being that viewership for the show has dropped consistantly since the beginning of the shortened seasons 2.

Lets hope they can pull it off to keep this great show alive!! I’ll post my thoughts of the 2 hour premiere.
